The City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) have announced a new partnership aimed at enhancing public transit areas. The initiative focuses on planting trees at bus stops across the city to provide shade for riders, improve the aesthetics of the area, and promote community health.

This effort represents the initial phase of a larger plan, with support from the Jacksonville Tree Commission. Future tree planting phases will be organized by the Office of Resilience, the Department of Public Works, and JTA.

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it will ensure proper maintenance of the trees, enhance safety, provide ecological benefits, and beautify public spaces. The plan will also guide the City’s Tree Commission in utilizing the City’s Tree Fund effectively for selecting suitable trees for specific locations.
