Today marks National Amelia Day, and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is celebrating the aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. Earhart visited Philadelphia Municipal Field, which was the precursor to PHL, in 1929. This visit is documented in a photo available through the City of Philadelphia Government Department of Records. The celebration coincides with Aviation History Month and is part of the airport's #FlashbackFriday initiative.
