Braden Birch '13, a former captain and defenseman for the Cornell men's hockey team, was part of the Florida Panthers team that won back-to-back Stanley Cups. The Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final at Amerant Bank Arena. The victory made the Florida Panthers the ninth NHL franchise to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.
