A portrait of Martha Hess, also known as Woman in Green, has returned to the Albany Institute of History & Art in New York after undergoing treatment by painting conservator Hallie Halpern. The painting was created by Samantha Huntley, a well-known portraitist from Watervliet, NY, who studied in New York City and Paris. Huntley was a teacher at the Emma Willard School of Art in Troy, NY, where Martha Hess was one of her students. The portrait, painted in 1901, depicts Martha Hess.

The conservation of the painting was made possible through the NYSCA/GHHN Conservation Treatment Grant Program, a program supported by the New York State Council on the Arts, the office of the Governor, and the New York State Legislature. The painting, titled Woman in Green by Samantha Huntley, is an oil on canvas piece that was gifted to the Albany Institute of History & Art by Gigi Pugh Sundstrom.
