**Drought Monitor Update for Mount Holly, NJ**
*November 19, 2024 – Released November 21, 2024*
The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that severe drought conditions are affecting a significant portion of the region. Currently, extreme drought covers 36% of the area, including parts of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and Delmarva. This marks the largest extent of extreme drought since August 2002.
As of the report's validity at 7 a.m. EST on November 19, significant rainfall is ongoing, but this storm system's precipitation is not factored into the current drought assessment. Although the recent rain has helped to decrease fire danger, which has been high for several weeks, it will not resolve the drought conditions immediately. Experts estimate that several more inches of rain are necessary to make substantial progress towards alleviating the drought.
Over the past 90 days, the region has experienced a rainfall deficit ranging from 5 to 9 inches. Year-to-date deficits are reported to be approximately 3 to 5 inches, with variations in localized areas.
