Staff Report / FLXlocal.org

Howard Jackson, born on April 30, 1809, passed away in August. Esther Culver was born on July 1, 1813, and died on February 9, 1893.

Cornell University's first buildings opened with panoramic views of downtown Ithaca, a setting that includes the historic Ithaca City Cemetery. This cemetery features burials dating back to the 1790s and is located directly below Stewart Avenue and the West Campus residences. The route, known as the "boneyard cut," was the most direct path for early Cornell students traveling to campus, particularly notable during the Halloween season.
