Caring Workforce Training Program Graduates First Cohort

Staff Report / LAXlocal.org

The Los Angeles County Economic Opportunity is celebrating the graduation of its first cohort from the Caring Workforce Training program in collaboration with the Paraprofessional Workforce Development Skills Coalition. This program focused on preparing individuals for careers in the home health aide sector.

Over a two-month period, 18 participants received training that included State registration preparation, advanced skills development, paid on-the-job training, as well as education on worker rights and advocacy. They were also introduced to the concept of worker ownership in home care businesses.

Of the 18 graduates, 15 have secured positions with Courage and other care cooperatives. Additionally, 11 of the graduates provided respite care during their work-based learning, assisting family-based care workers.

The Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has allocated $1 million to support this initiative, funded through the American Rescue Plan, as part of its High Road Training Partnership programs. The aim is to develop a qualified workforce in opportunity sectors that can earn progressive wages and gain ownership in their careers.

A second cohort for the Caring Workforce Training program is set to begin on December 7th, with interested individuals encouraged to sign up via the provided link.
