Graduates Launch Careers in Home Health Aide

Staff Report / LAXlocal.org

The Los Angeles County Economic Opportunity department has announced the graduation of its first cohort from the Caring Workforce Training program, offered in partnership with the non-profit organization PWC. This program aims to prepare individuals for careers in the home health aide sector.

Over the course of two months, 18 participants received training focused on gaining necessary skills for caregiving and operating employee-owned home care businesses. Training included preparation for state registration, advanced skills from the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute, paid on-the-job training, and education on worker rights, advocacy, and ownership.

As a result of the program, 15 graduates have joined Courage and other care cooperatives, while 11 individuals have provided respite care in partnership with family-based care workers.

The Department of Economic Opportunity has committed $1 million to support the development of this workforce using funds from the American Rescue Plan, as part of its High Road Training Partnership programs.

A second cohort for the Caring Workforce Training program will begin on December 7th, and interested individuals can sign up via the provided link.
