Twenty Nonprofits Graduate from Economic Opportunity Program

Staff Report / LAXlocal.org

The Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) in Los Angeles has announced the graduation of 20 nonprofit organizations from its inaugural Social Enterprise Incubator program. This initiative, supported by REDF, the Center for Nonprofit Management, and Nearby Consulting, aims to help nonprofits develop their business models and establish social enterprises.

Thirteen of the graduating organizations are planning to launch their social enterprises within the next 3 to 6 months, which is expected to create a positive impact in their communities. DEO is working alongside 15 partners to reach 10,000 businesses over the next year through education, technical assistance, training, and capital support as part of its Economic Mobility Initiative.

Additionally, social enterprises are encouraged to seek certification with the Office of Small Business to access contracting opportunities with DEO and more than 40 County agencies. For more information, interested parties can visit lacountyemi.com.
